What happens during the first counselling session?
The first session is an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling, what you would like support with and what may help you feel comfortable during appointments.
You do not need to share everything immediately. The process can move at a pace that feels manageable.
How long are appointments?
Standard counselling appointments are approximately 50 minutes.
Do I need a referral?
Your GP or another health professional is welcome to refer you to Healing Steps Counselling.
While a referral can provide helpful background information, you do not need a referral to make an appointment.
Can I attend face to face counselling?
We are not offering face to face counselling at this stage. Appointments are being offered online only using a secure video platform where we ensure highest level of confidentiality.
Where can I attend an online session?
You can attend from home or another private location where you feel comfortable and are unlikely to be interrupted.
Is counselling confidential?
Information discussed during counselling is treated confidentially.
There are legal and ethical limits to confidentiality, including situations involving serious risk of harm, concerns about a child’s safety or information required by law.
Confidentiality and its limits will be explained before counselling begins.
What happens during the free consultation?
The complimentary 15-minute consultation allows you to briefly discuss what you are looking for, ask practical questions and decide whether you would like to book an appointment.
What if I need urgent support?
Healing Steps Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service.
If there is an immediate risk of harm, call emergency services on 000 or attend your nearest hospital emergency department.
Add other crisis-service details only after checking that they are accurate and suitable for your service area.
Can I stop counselling anytime ?
Yes. Counselling is voluntary. You can discuss pausing or ending counselling at any time.
Do you offer private health insurance rebates
This depends on your health fund and level of cover.
Healing Steps Counselling is currently working towards registration with participating private health funds. We recommend checking with your health insurer regarding your eligibility for counselling rebates.
Do you work with NDIS participants?
Yes, healing steps Counselling welcomes NDIS participants who are self- managed, where counselling aligns with their NDIS goals and funding
